Chapter 19

“Skeet,” Sheena announced toward the front panel, “Take us to the Royal Opera House,” she said and seeing Tish’s terror filled eyes made it an easy decision for Sheena. Tish had to face the Royal Company and the sooner the better so they could all relax.

Tish came out of her seat petrified, “No!” she cried, “Skeet, take us to the Savoy!”

“Aye mam, to the Royal Ballet,” Skeet pertly replied after Tish’s outburst and adjusted her heading accordingly.

Tish clenched her knuckles over her mouth in fear dreading the confrontation because she knew that it was always harder to face other performers than a general audience because dancers saw every mistake, and they were so critical of other dancers, especially her!

“I don’t want to go!” Tish cried with trembling lips, “I want to go to the hotel!”

“Now stop it!” Sheena snapped as she pried her arm loose from Tish’s solid grip, and then took her teary cheeks in the palms of her hands. “Do you think that we’d be putting you through all of this if we didn’t have every confidence in the world about how good you are?”

Tish shook her head as much as she could clutched between Shee’s hands.

“I love you more than anything in the world,” Sheena swore with such feeling in her voice, “You know that.”

She waited until Tish meekly nodded and did not see Mina look down in disappointment.

“ETA RBC ten seconds,” Skeet announced but did not expect a response with the one-way communication’s active.

Sheena ignored Skeet but Tish’s eyes grew even wider.

“You’re going to do wonderful,” Sheena continued, “I know you are, but you’ve got to calm down some. Do you hear me?”

Tish nodded again trying to blink her tears away and attempted a smile.

Mina’s attention had been swept away as they soared between the buildings while getting continuously closer to the ground, but now she was determined to make Sheena Steele love her just as much as she did Cherry. Still, Cherry’s state of mind had a way of demanding people’s attention, so she eased over toward her and laid her hand on Cherry’s thigh.

“Cherry, you’re the bravest person in the whole world,” Mina stated sincerely thinking about the SUV massacre, and how Cherry had turned to fight them all single-handedly, “and you’re the best ballerina in the world too.”

“You’ve never even seen me dance,” Tish protested wiping her eyes with the handkerchief that she took from Shee’s hand.

“I can tell by the way you walk, move or do everything,” Mina admitted softly.

“You see,” Sheena agreed as the ACE came to a full stop.

“Thank you,” Tish whispered not sure what else to say to such a compliment, and then the cabin darkened dramatically causing Tish to suck in her breath as they flew between the taller buildings.

“They’re just shadows,” Sheena whispered reassuringly, “Come on, dry it up. Remember, you’re an American girl and we crave a challenge—any challenge! Remember the first time you wanted to go into space? That was nothing to you.”

She brushed Tish’s tears away with Vigdor’s handkerchief, and thankful that she had used waterproof makeup.
